We are deep in preparations for Yarndale at the weekend (are you going? We’ll be on stand J14 and are very excited about it!). But in the meantime, here are the socks…

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this gentle summer sock knitalong. We set off from our toes, and worked our way up the foot, conquered Mount Heel, and as of two weeks ago I hope you’ve been meandering along your calves. Welcome to the penultimate post in the Use Every Scrap KAL! How did you get on with the heels? So, now we’ve knitted some tubes, with nice uninterrupted sequences of stripes, be they of the hand-dyed or scrappy variety, that are a bit longer than our feet. Lovely! Except, of course, the small matter of not being able to try them on anymore – our pesky heels get in the way. So today, that’s where we turn our attention.

August 4, 2021 Jen Arnall-Culliford

Today’s the day that we cast away for our Use Every Scrap Knitalong, and cast on! Over the next two months, we’ll be sharing posts that together will form a road map for knitting toe-up socks that use up every bit of a special skein or scraps that you’ve got lingering in your stash. If you missed last week’s post on preparing your yarn, you can catch up here. Today, we’re going to cover casting on and knitting your toe. Needles at ready? Let’s get started!

Coming Soon: The Use Every Scrap Knitalong

July 21, 2021 Jen Arnall-Culliford
#USEEVERYSCRAPKAL-1200x800-2.png

Summer has finally arrived in Frome! It’s only due to last until the weekend, but it has trigged my annual desire to cast on for socks. Every. Year. Without. Fail. The weather gets even a little bit warm, and I cast on for socks. It’s the rules.

This year I thought it would be fun to do a knitalong to show you how to make a pair of socks that uses every scrap of yarn. This is the method I used to make the fabulous striping pair above.
