Confident Knitting: The Techniques
When was the last time you tried something new? It’s no secret that I love being a lifetime learner, but over the past year especially, trying out new stuff has been a real bright spot. From tackling new hobbies (baking with sourdough, running and sewing) to sussing out new knitting techniques, I love the quiet absorption that comes with first trying to understand something unfamiliar, followed by the rush of excitement when I’ve got it right. And I absolutely love that part of my job is getting to share that fabulous feeling with you.
So, how do we break down techniques and share them with you? Well, each month’s pattern is accompanied by a photo tutorial professionally shot by the very talented Jesse Wild. Clear hand-shots combined with carefully written and concise text take you stepwise through each chunk of a new technique, until suddenly, you find you’ve done it!
You can read more about how Confident Knitting will work, and see the different options for the programme and accompanying yarns over in this post: Confident Knitting: A Third Year of Techniques.
And do read on to find out what we will be learning together…
Alongside the photo tutorials you’ll receive in your inbox, we also produce video tutorials for each technique, published to our YouTube channel. Everyone learns a bit differently, so we really like providing two formats so you can try new techniques with buckets of confidence — and you might find that you prefer a video for some techniques and stepwise photos for others! Our YouTube videos are also available to the general public so, if purchasing the book is out of reach for you, you can still learn along with us!
Having photo and video tutorials to refer to is grand, but sometimes learning’s easier (and also more fun) with others! So we’ll be hosting monthly knitalongs celebrating the featured technique in our online forum, The Knitalong Hub. Here, you can ask questions, get advice and tips, and cheer others on as we all master new techniques together! So much extra knowledge sharing happens in these monthly knitalongs — more than we could ever squeeze into one book! And anyone can take part, as long as they’re working on a project that uses the featured technique, be that the project from Confident Knitting, or an alternative project using the same technique.
So, are you ready to get more confident in your knitting?! Here are the techniques we’ll be delving into:
Amazing Blocking
Catching Floats in Colourwork
Embroidering Your Knitting
Folded Hem
Garter stitch short-row heel
German Twisted Cast On For Ribbing
Grab Stitches
I-cord Cast Off
Modular Knitting

Vikkel Braids
Whether you decide to try each and every technique or dive into just the ones that pique your interest, we hope you will enjoy learning something new! We’re so ready to embark on this year-long knitting journey, and hope that the confidence you gain will stay with you for much longer still!
